Heart Healthy Eating for CALAMARES

Ingredients:

1/2 klio fresh calamares (pusit), washed and cleaned
2 tablespoons calamansi or lemon citrus
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon refined salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup water
1 egg
2 tablespoon cooking oil
Cooking oil for deep frying

Step 1

Cut squid in 1/2 inch rings. Marinate for 1/2 hour in 1 tablespoonful of the calamansi citrus & salt. Drain

Step 2

In a bowl, blend cornstarch, flour, salt & baking soda. In another bowl, blend water, the remaining calamansi juice, egg & oil.

Step 3

Dip calamaries rings in flour mixture, then in egg mixture, & deep fry until golden brown, Serve hot w/ sweet chili sauce or vinegar w/ garlic.
